Bateman’s Victory Ale

A recipe that I first made many years ago, and is posted here for posterity and easy reference. It is produced by George Batemans & Son in Lincolnshire, UK. Reviews on RateBeer and BeerAdvocate.

Interestingly enough, the description on their website of English Goldings and American Liberty hops does not correspond well at all with this recipe, nor do the tasting notes that claim “The aroma booms with peppery hops and bitter oranges, balanced by fresh bread maltiness. Hops and fruit dominate the palate, while the finish has sappy malt, tart fruit and lingering hop bitterness.”

Maybe I should just change this to a straight English Pale Ale recipe and drop all refere3nce to Batemans. Or maybe I should just brew the damn beer, make changes if I see fit, drink whatever I come up with, and stop worrying so much about cloning other beers out there!
